Binary Star Network Analyzer

Contact-binary modelling with MCMC and light-curve analysis.

The problem it solved

Contact-binary parameter fitting from sparse photometric time-series is notoriously underdetermined and slow. This solver makes MCMC inference, starspot modelling and HR-diagram visualisation reproducible enough for peer-reviewed astronomy work.

Similar problems it can solve

Other inverse-problem fits over noisy time-series (exoplanet transits, variable stars, eclipsing binaries), Bayesian parameter estimation pipelines, and scientific WPF tools for any domain that needs MCMC + density visualisation.

A WPF analyzer for contact-binary star systems used in the international BSN Project (R/AST/2021/1001). Ingests time-series photometric data (Catalina Sky Survey and others), fits binary parameters with Markov Chain Monte Carlo, models starspots and inclination, and renders Hertzsprung-Russell diagrams — the scientific software behind peer-reviewed publications in MNRAS and PASP.

Overview

The Binary Star Network Analyzer is the scientific desktop tool behind the peer-reviewed binary-star research — the software supporting MNRAS and PASP papers and a contracted contribution to the international BSN Project (R/AST/2021/1001). It ingests photometric time-series (Catalina Sky Survey time-flux data and similar archives) and fits the physical parameters of contact binary star systems.

Engineering & science

A WPF tool that combines a Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampler with kernel-density estimation and contour visualisation to recover binary parameters from a light curve. Modules cover binary system construction, starspot modelling, inclination and temperature recovery, interpolation of sparse observations, and Hertzsprung–Russell diagram rendering.

Technology

WPF (.NET) with custom MCMC, KDE, contour and HR-diagram modules; time-flux ingestion from Catalina Sky Survey and compatible photometric archives.
